In IJmuiden, five of approximately forty German defence buildings constructed during the Second World War, were given the new function of a museum about the Second World War. One part of the museum lies underground and the other part lies half sunken in the ground. In this way the cultural and monumental values are preserved as well as the landscape. Contrast in material and light emphasize the old and the new in this design.
